Fun New Playground

July 21st, 2008

Anna’s Bananas in Burnsville is excited to announce

our new playground addition! We added a new playground space that will allow an area for the children to have picnics and for the little ones to swing in the summer breeze. The big tree will allow for some wonderful shade so even on those hot steamy Minnesota summer days the children can enjoy the great outdoors … so grab the bubbles, some ice water and parachute and let’s have some fun!

Hmmm … Picnic anyone?

kids-picnic.jpg

As a child do you remember going on a picnic? I sure do! Growing up with 3 sisters and 2 brothers we often were gathered in the kitchen. My mom always had the kitchen windows open in the summer mornings. Ohhhhhhhhh the fresh country air was delightful, I still can remember how the sounds made me feel so happy. The birds singing, the cows from the neighbors pasture mooing, and the wind hitting the branches of the trees to make a relaxing peaceful feeling inside of me. My oldest sister would make the announcement “ok guys… we are going on a picnic today… so everyone meet in the kitchen at 11:00 to pack our lunch”. So at 11:00 we would be slapping together peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bagging cookies and picking fresh cucumbers out of my dads garden and stuffing them in a wicker picnic basket . My brother would fill a larger than life water bottle for all six of us to chug down and then… we were off! My mom would have a huge smile on her face and I always thought it was because we were so cute and she was so impressed with our picnic… Well now I get it… she was smiling because we were all taking off and getting out of her hair for a couple hours! We marched like an army of ants… one by one. Everyone caring his/her own item… picnic basket, blanket, skeeter spray, water bottle, and toys and treasures. We marched further and further away from the house (mom’s smile is getting bigger and bigger hehehe!) until we were in the deep forest beyond reality. We were now in our own kingdom where creatures of our imagination lived and fairly tails became reality. The picnic was always orchestrated by my oldest sister and we all were given our pretend names to be used for the entire day. Together we ate our picnic lunch on the big tattered blanket that was sprawled out over I am sure a badger house or a skunk hole! Unwrapping the sandwich from the saran wrap felt like unwrapping a gift at Christmas… sounds weird but really it was that fun! We would have our own interesting conversations while munching down the homemade cookies. Then we would play kick the can or hide and seek in the woods (not sure how safe that was?) then as usual our oldest sister would organize the clean up and we would march or drag ourselves back to the house. We would be greeted with a still happy mom who had Melissa Manchester cranked on the record player( oh… am I old) and we had once again made a memory that who would have ever known would have been etched in our minds forever! We all know children just love eating outdoors. It’s different, it’s a great escape from the confines of the house and they can make more mess without any worries! I challenge you all to encourage your children to choose a safe location for a kid’s picnic where there is lots of room for them to run around and make a noise, and use their imagination and yes … create memories with their siblings, cousins or friends. Summers fly by so darn fast and we kind of get wrapped up in the adult activities and forget about kids picnics! So… grab your picnic basket and let the kids do the packing! Have fun and let me know how the picnic went! Seeing you around… Mrs. Anna

Movement and Tumbling Classes comming to Anna’s!

June 16th, 2008

tumbling.jpg

Big news at Anna’s Bananas!

At both locations we are welcoming Mrs. Kathy Graczyk, owner of M.A.T (Movement and Tumbling). Kathy instructs a 30 minute class of movement and tumbling to preschool age children. Kathy will come to the center once a week to tumble; stretch, conduct child friendly aerobic exercises and just plain have good old fashioned fun with the children!Kathy believes learning should be fun so she knew Anna’s Bananas was just the place to come! Hurray for Anna’s! Kathy’s primary focus of the class is to build your child’s self esteem and confidence while encouraging creativity through movement and play! Anna’s Bananas will offer classes at both centers for children in the Preschool programs. Please take a moment and see the display in the front lobby of the center.A mother from another school said “I just love the movement classes for my 3 year old son, when Kathy has been at the center he talks about his tumbling all night long, Thanks Kathy!” We look forward to the Movement and Tumbling classes and maybe you can even catch Mrs. Anna doing a triple summersault at one of the classes! HA HA! Have fun!! Anna
