Fun New Playground

July 21st, 2008

Anna’s Bananas in Burnsville is excited to announce

our new playground addition! We added a new playground space that will allow an area for the children to have picnics and for the little ones to swing in the summer breeze. The big tree will allow for some wonderful shade so even on those hot steamy Minnesota summer days the children can enjoy the great outdoors … so grab the bubbles, some ice water and parachute and let’s have some fun!

Hmmm … Picnic anyone?

July 11th, 2008

kids-picnic.jpg

As a child do you remember going on a picnic? I sure do! Growing up with 3 sisters and 2 brothers we often were gathered in the kitchen. My mom always had the kitchen windows open in the summer mornings.  Ohhhhhhhhh the fresh country air was delightful, I still can remember how the sounds made me feel so happy. The birds singing, the cows from the neighbors pasture mooing, and the wind hitting the branches of the trees to make a relaxing peaceful feeling inside of me. My oldest sister would make the announcement “ok guys… we are going on a picnic today… so everyone meet in the kitchen at 11:00 to pack our lunch”.   So at 11:00 we would be slapping together peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bagging cookies and picking fresh cucumbers out of my dads garden and stuffing them in a wicker picnic basket . My brother would fill a larger than life water bottle for all six of us to chug down and then… we were off!  My mom would have a huge smile on her face and I always thought it was because we were so cute and she was so impressed with our picnic… Well now I get it… she was smiling because we were all taking off and getting out of her hair for a couple hours! We marched like an army of ants… one by one. Everyone caring his/her own item… picnic basket, blanket, skeeter spray, water bottle, and toys and treasures. We marched further and further away from the house (mom’s smile is getting bigger and bigger hehehe!) until we were in the deep forest beyond reality. We were now in our own kingdom where creatures of our imagination lived and fairly tails became reality. The picnic was always orchestrated by my oldest sister and we all were given our pretend names to be used for the entire day. Together we ate our picnic lunch on the big tattered blanket that was sprawled out over I am sure a badger house or a skunk hole! Unwrapping the sandwich from the saran wrap felt like unwrapping a gift at Christmas… sounds weird but really it was that fun! We would have our own interesting conversations while munching down the homemade cookies. Then we would play kick the can or hide and seek in the woods (not sure how safe that was?) then as usual our oldest sister would organize the clean up and we would march or drag ourselves back to the house. We would be greeted with a still happy mom who had Melissa Manchester cranked on the record player( oh… am I old) and we had once again made a memory that who would have ever known would have been etched in our minds forever! We all know children just love eating outdoors. It’s different, it’s a great escape from the confines of the house and they can make more mess without any worries!  I challenge you all to encourage your children to choose a safe location for a kid’s picnic where there is lots of room for them to run around and make a noise, and use their imagination and yes … create memories with their siblings, cousins or friends. Summers fly by so darn fast and we kind of get wrapped up in the adult activities and forget about kids picnics!  So… grab your picnic basket and let the kids do the packing!                                                                                                                                                                    Have fun and let me know how the picnic went!                                                                                                                                  Seeing you around… Mrs. Anna

Movement and Tumbling Classes comming to Anna’s!

June 16th, 2008

Big news at Anna’s Bananas!

At both locations we are welcoming Mrs. Kathy Graczyk, owner of M.A.T (Movement and Tumbling). Kathy instructs a 30 minute class of movement and tumbling to preschool age children. Kathy will come to the center once a week to tumble; stretch, conduct child friendly aerobic exercises and just plain have good old fashioned fun with the children!Kathy believes learning should be fun so she knew Anna’s Bananas was just the place to come! Hurray for Anna’s!  Kathy’s primary focus of the class is to build your child’s self esteem and confidence while encouraging creativity through movement and play! Anna’s Bananas will offer classes at both centers for children in the Preschool programs. Please take a moment and see the display in the front lobby of the center.A mother from another school said “I just love the movement classes for my 3  year old son, when Kathy has been at the center he talks about his tumbling all night long, Thanks Kathy!”  We look forward to the Movement and Tumbling classes and maybe you can even catch Mrs. Anna doing a triple summersault at one of the classes! HA HA! Have fun!!                                                                                                                                                                                             Anna

We sure could use “A little good news today”… Inspiration for your heart and soul in the thoughest times…

May 16th, 2008

Well, as I was driving in the car today I heard a song… it was the top of the country charts in 1983 and it caught my attention in a big way. I have the lyrics below for you to refresh yourselves with ….

I rolled out this morning ,Kids had the mornin’ news show on
Bryant Gumbel was talkin’ ’bout the fighting in Lebanon
Some senator was squawkin’ ’bout the bad economy
It’s gonna get worse you see, we need a change in policy
There’s a local paper rolled up in a rubber band
One more sad story’s one more than I can stand
Just once how I’d like to see the headline say
“Not much to print today, can’t find nothin’ bad to say”, because

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD’ed, nobody burned a single buildin’ down
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today

I’ll come home this evenin’
I’ll bet that the news will be the same
Somebody takes a hostage, somebody steals a plane
How I wanna hear the anchor man talk about a county fair
And how we cleaned up the air, how everybody learned to care
Whoa, tell me

Nobody was assassinated in the whole Third World today
And in the streets of Ireland, all the children had to do was play
And everybody loves everybody in the good old USA
We sure could use a little good news today

So with all we are dealing with right now in the world like the economy, war, crime etc. I found it crazy that we are always saying how the world is changing so fast and yet we can look back at this song that was writen  25 years ago and almost think it was written today! Are things getting worse or is this the way it always has been? So with all the worry and stress in the world we really need to go back to the good old saying “The best things in life are free”. As the days go by and the gas prices continue to rise, taxes are out of control, your groceries bills are higher then you have ever had , we need to STOP for a moment and think about what really counts. What counts in the end really is completly Free. Like the time we spend with our children…  FREE, a walk in the local park… FREE, swimming at a lake with an old rope swing(no water parks, or public pools) FREE; simply talking and laughing with a great friend ( no cell phones or Internet- really together!)FREE; making a fort out of blankets FREE; dance in the pouring rain…grab the kids and just have fun…FREE and my all time favorite… every night tuck your children into bed… FREE.

So please take a breath and when times get a bit hard remember… the best things in life are FREE and thats what really counts. Spending real time together and not having to worry about all the other “stuff” we may think our kids need. Your time is Free but it fells like a million bucks when you give it to your family!

And that my friends is “Your little good news today”!

Wishing you all a weekend filled with FREE Fun!

And by the way.. here comes the sun we ordered.. YES!

Preschool Graduation… another year older and they are so much wiser!

May 13th, 2008

800px-pre-school_graduation.jpg

Can you even believe it’s time for the preschool Graduation?  Seems like we just had preschool graduation and now its graduation time again. At Anna’s Bananas, we often have fun looking back at the kids who are graduating and remembering them in the infant room! Time fly’s when you’re having fun.. right!!Hmmmm …wonder if they will grow up and remember the fun days they had at Anna’s Bananas?  I tell my staff they will… I hope! I can remember the way my preschool teachers hands felt (sooooooo cold) on my skin when she would PIN those notes to my shirt for my parents to read. What was with the pin? Not sure how safe that was… but they figured if the note was physically pined to our bodies our parents would read them. Now… as far as the notes go… don’t worry -all good reports! Hehehe!  I like to tell a story to my staff about a time in preschool I experienced so they all are reminded EVERYTHING we say and do will stay with the children for as long as they live. So it goes something like this… all the children were in circle time, the teacher instructs all the children “when the music starts everyone run in place” well… the music started and I start running… all over the room, faster and faster, darting in between all the kids, circling around the teacher then realizing… no one else is running, just me! The music stops, the teacher yells out “great children… Anna ruined it for everyone!” I was devastated! So embarrassed… I had no idea what running in place was and I wanted to cry. Something so simple left me feeling so bad. I could not help it and I started to cry, then my best friend, Jimmy Mckenzie, started running all over the room too just to make me feel better. The teacher knew I was feeling bad and she then made the announcement for everyone to run all over the room. The classroom turned in to giggle factory and suddenly I went from the “embarrassed kid” that the kids were laughing at to the fun kid who everyone was laughing with and the whole classroom came to life!  I guess the lesson from this is simple.  Children are absorbing everything we say and do. We must be careful how we quick react…and we need to live life on the fun side… Running all over was much more fun than running in place Mrs. Baker, now wasn’t it…Thank you!Happy Preschool Graduation Kids and I wish you tons of FUN days ahead at Kindergarten!
Your Friend,

Mrs. Anna
